What was wrong with British Leyland?

I do not recall their cars falling apart anymore than other makes like fiat lancia renault etc. I recall lots of strikes & extremely poor management. There were some poor design decisions but overall the actual reliability of their cars was not that bad. Some extremely short sighted decisions by the management on which direction the company went did not help matters.
