Why is Daisy(from the great gatsby)self centered and careless???

Daisy is the way she is because of how she was raised. She grew up in a rich family, one of "old money". Her main concern is maintaining her social status. She marries a well-off man solely for material luxuries. To protect her reputation, she chooses Tom over Gatsby, whom she blames for Myrtle's death. In the end, she doesn't even show up to Gatsby's funeral, despite her supposed "love" for him and her indirectly causing his death. She can barely care for her baby, she's so self-centered. Throughout the novel she proves that she is looking out for one person and one person only: herself.
