Do we get closer to enlightenment everytime we learn through the various happening in our life?

I don't believe there is a "path" to enlightenment. I believe that we can learn something from our experiences, but not everyone does. Some people simply don't learn. Some make the same mistakes over and over. Some get a wrong message, and develop false reasoning. And if we're fortunate, we gain some insight that we can use that's helpful to ourselves and others. People who consistently do so are considered wise. However, there are different truths in different societies, cultures, and times.
