Does your child have a 'lovey'?

it is normal to have a lovey and take it everywhere...in my parenting magazine they say you should encourage one ffrom 12- 18 months and let them keep it. let her have it and it will save everyone heart ache...why do you want it to be taken away? i am not being mean, just want to know why
